Silence my telephonic oppressors

Here's a tip for all of you out there with cell phones. I wish I had thought of this sooner, but even I, the Mad Genius Pharmacy Vigilante, can overlook things from time to time.

As you all know, in this blog I have blasted the cell phone companies for being behind in providing us the technological tools to solve this problem. Those of you with landlines have numerous options, as there are a myriad of devices that can be used to block telemarketing phone calls. Those of you with Nextel can set your phone to only accept calls from people already in your phone book. But people like me, who choose Verizon as a provider, have limited options.

Besides the usage of air time, the most annoying aspect of getting these calls is the fact that you must jump to get your phone. If you're like me and you keep your phone on at work, nothing is more annoying than being in the next cubicle, hearing your cell phone ring, and finding a mysterious number on the caller ID. For me, 90% of the time that means it's a pharmacy.

Well, my workaround involves tediously adding each phone number to a contact in my Verizon VX8300. The first entry is simply called "Pharm", and I've set it to silently ring. This won't eliminate the annoying call waiting beeps when I'm on the phone, but at least I won't be jumping off the couch and running into my office while I'm watching some enormously important TV show.

In the picture above, you'll see the entry I've created, while in the background the various visitors to this site are a thousand points of light. Or, in my mind, a thousand aggravated people who wonder what figure in business or government will take notice of our problem.

After all, the dinosaurs in Congress passed the Do Not Call list, but as we all know, that only stops a few people. Technology, and the vigilante use of autodialers, is our only hope.

Haven't heard from you in a while. Hope you're still having fun. I'm not sure what to do...I've ordered from these people before and now I'm afraid of getting in trouble. My dr. prescribes a muscle relaxer but I don't use that prescription. Do you think I can get in trouble?

Get in trouble? I don't think so... but of course I wouldn't be able to comment on that.

Many of these scum also have email addresses. Most are of the free and anonymous type (Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.) Yeah, all the real and honest businesses use anonymous email accounts all the time! Let me see, who else used these type of anonymous email accounts? Oh yeah, the 9/11 hijackers! And these "pharmacy" phone rapists are just as much terrorists as the 9/11 scum hijackers!

So we can also email them!

Unfortunately, most of these free email accounts block out viruses, so emailing them viruses would be difficult. But perhaps enough emails (from our own anonymous accounts) containing large images or videos could help fill up their inboxes?

Back to the Phones

One tactic I have been doing for a while is this:

I call them up.*

In a frantic and hurried voice I tell them, "You are going to get raided in the next 15 minutes! If you don't want to get arrested, bet out of there NOW!" I then hang up hard and fast.

Every time I have done this, when I have called back 5 minutes later, there is never a live person who answers! It either rings constantly or goes to their answering machine. Did they flee out of their house from which they are making the call? I don't know. I hope so.

Perhaps I am fooling myself that they are scared enough to think it is true. But they know they are criminals. So the possibility of them being arrested (even by their pathetic law enforcement of their country) must always be in the backs of their little pea-brains.

*I always use *67 and always call them from a pay phone just in case they have ways of getting a *67ed number!

*69 is Automatic Call Back. It will call back the last number that called your phone...however, as you found out, when they are using Call Spoofing (Google it) or they have Caller ID Blocking, then *69 will not work.

*67 will block your number from showing up on other people's Caller ID.

ahhh..thanks for the clarification. Doesn't seem to matter though. The number they give is fake. I'm so sick and tired of it. I certainly don't think less of you for changing your number. I would too if I didn't have small children (one of whom answered the phone one time when these pieces of shit called and tried to sell HIM meds!!!! He was 9.

Sorry to hear that. Them trying to sell prescriptions to adults is one thing, but to kids...that's death penalty punishment in my opinion!

Changing your number is easier than you think. Yeah, it will take a few days for you to contact all you friends, relatives and associates to inform them of your new number. But even before you are done doing that of...THE CALLS STOP!

Now they are spoofing with a local number...are you ready for this? The friggin' MORGUE!!!! Can you believe this????

I get a call from these guys around once a month. The last number in my caller ID was 1-800-397-9265 and they claim to be from "online pharmacy."

They want to sell me Viagra, I have told them I know that they are a scam, and have asked them to take me off their list. But they keep calling.

If you call that 800 number you get a recording saying the number is not in service.
